reasonable and necessary legal fees when you use a plan attorney.
The FOP Legal Defense Plan is owned by the FOP and is
managed by police officers.
Do I have to use an attorney
that is on the plan or can I choose my own lawyer?
You have the option of using your own attorney, but you must
cover the preset deductible before the plan takes effect.
Can my attorney join the
plan?
Yes, he or she can. He would be required to file a
re-question to join. Attorneys must maintain at least $150,000 in malpractice
insurance, must not have any pending ethics complaints, and agree to accept the
fees paid by the plan in order to join.
