LOUISIANA'S JOHNNY FREDERIC RECEIVES
 "JACK DUDEK"
NATIONAL FOP MEMBER OF THE YEAR AWARD

At the Fall Board Meeting on September 8, 2006 held in Salt Lake City Utah, the National Fraternal Order of Police named Johnny Frederic of Gonzales Lodge #16 as co recipient of the coveted Jack Dudek, Member of the year award. Frederic shares this honor with Wilber Chamberlin of Mississippi.

Unaware his name had been submitted for this honor, a speechless and emotional Johnny Frederic, with his wife Virginia by his side, said he only did what any member would do, help others at their time of need.

.

“Johnny has spent his adult life serving in positions where he could help people. It is Johnny’s sound judgment, keen perception, sense of compassion, patience, and his remarkable ability to make friends, that sets him apart,” said Louisiana State President Patrick Yoes.

Perhaps the greatest example of Johnny’s and Wilber’s dedication to those who protect and serve came by way of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, who collectively presented challenges, the likes, the United States had never seen before.

Facing such diverse challenges at the hands of two massive storms three weeks apart, Johnny and Wilber emerged as a leader. Working independently, the two men were part of a support network that made a profound difference in the rescue and recovery efforts in both Louisiana and Mississippi. There efforts and selfless actions and placing their own safety at risk, they ensured that law enforcement officers all across the impacted region had the tools needed to restore stability to a devastated region.

“Johnny and Wilber serve as a shining example of how the law enforcement community takes care of our own. We believe the reputation and image of the Fraternal Order of Police has been further enhanced through the efforts of these two men. Their dedication, foresight, and creativity truly made a difference in the lives of so many in desperate needs,” said Yoes.

Named after a long time national president of the Fraternal Order of Police, the Jack Dudek award is given annually to a member who gives selflessly to his community, his profession, and the FOP. Frederic was nominated by the entire executive board of the Louisiana State Lodge and Wilber was nominated by the Mississippi State Lodge. This is only the second time the Dudek award has been given to co- recipients.
